Mission Statement
CAAK was established in 2007 as a nonprofit organization, with the mission of being an open platform which generates dialogue and collaboration across disciplinary boundaries between art and architecture in the context of the city of Kanazawa. CAAK run creator in residence program in Machiya (Japanese traditional house), as well as lectures, parties, exhibitions, workshops etc. This has resulted in the development of a local, national and international network of people and organizations.

CAAK & Kapo Creator in Residence 7: Emi Kodama

Canadian artist Emi Kodama has been living and working in Belgium since graduating as a laureate of the Higher Institute of Fine Art (HISK), a post-graduate program in Ghent. Her work explores the every day through stories that take shape in a multidisciplinary practice that includes video, photography, drawing, writing, and performance. She is second generation Japanese and has never lived in Japan, and this will be her first time being here for three months. During her residency in Kanazawa, she would like to deepen her understanding of Japanese culture and has a particular interest in traditional gardens and how their philosophy influences daily life.
